Tuna Fish and Pets

Yesterday, I had some tuna fish with one of my meals. I gave some tuna to my cats for a delicious treat.

Occasionally feeding your pets tuna, in small amounts, can be a great treat, especially for cats. However, since tuna fish contains mercury, do not feed your pets large amounts of it because it can present significant health problems. Also, it is best to buy tuna packed in water.

Pet Safety Tips

Some household items can be dangerous for your pets. Most of these are obvious, but some are not so obvious, like grapes and raisins. Here is a list of some items that could pose a threat to your pets.

  • Insecticides
  • rodent poisons
  • antifreeze
  • cocoa mulch
  • chemicals used on lawns
  • de-icing salts
  • some human medications
  • certain house plants
  • chocolate
  • onions
  • grapes
  • raisins
  • xylitol sweetener
  • chicken bones
  • tomatoes

  • macadamia nuts
  • alcoholic beverages
  • coffee

If your think your pet has been poisoned, contract your veterinarian immediately.
Also you can contact the National Animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435. There is a fee for their service.
